Gabby Lady BugGabrielle Dinsmore was fascinated by ladybugs. From time to time, when her mother would be styling her hair in the bathroom ladybugs would visit and Gabrielle would say “look mommy the lady bugs are here”. She loved to count how many ladybugs were there and would be very disappointed if they didn’t make an appearance.

At the end of Gabrielle’s life when the doctors shared the devastating news with Gabrielle’s parents that there was nothing more they could do for her. Gabrielle’s mom whispered in her ear asking Gabrielle to send her parents a sign that she made it to heaven. The week that Gabrielle passed away there was record breaking flooding in the state of Rhode Island and the Dinsmores had been at Children’s Hospital Boston for nearly three weeks. The night that Gabrielle passed away Gabrielle parents discovered one ladybug in the bathroom. For the Dinsmores this was unquestionably the sign from Gabrielle that she made it to heaven.

The Dinsmores worked with a graphic designer to incorporate the ladybug into the logos for both the Gabrielle Dinsmore Heart & Hope Fund and Gabrielle’s Heart Camp. The tagline for Gabrielle’s Heart Camp is “giving you wings to reach your potential”.

Ladybugs are sometimes used as a symbol of protection and are often thought of as a symbol of love.  It is also said that if a ladybug lands on you, it means you will have love and luck in your future. In spite of its size, it appears to be FEARLESS.  A messenger of promise, the ladybug reconnects us with the joy of living.  The need to release our fears and return to love is one of the messages it carries.

When you look at it think of Gabrielle, our mission, the heart & feeding children you have helped, and know that you have helped us make a difference in our community.
